The triliteral root khā yā lām (خ ي ل) occurs nine times in the Quran, in three derived forms:
- once as the form II verb yukhayyalu (يُخَيَّلُ)
- five times as the noun khayl (خَيْل)
- three times as the nominal mukh'tāl (مُخْتَال)
