The triliteral root khā yā lām (خ ي ل) occurs nine times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • once as the form II verb yukhayyalu (يُخَيَّلُ)
  • five times as the noun khayl (خَيْل)
  • three times as the nominal mukh'tāl (مُخْتَال)

Verb (form II) - to seem

(20:66:7) yukhayyaluseemed فَإِذَا حِبَالُهُمْ وَعِصِيُّهُمْ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ سِحْرِهِمْ أَنَّهَا تَسْعَىٰ
