The triliteral root thā bā tā (ث ب ت) occurs 18 times in the Quran, in six derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb uth'butu (ٱثْبُتُ)
  • 10 times as the form II verb thabbat (ثَبَّتْ)
  • twice as the form IV verb yuth'bitu (يُثْبِتُ)
  • once as the noun thubūt (ثُبُوت)
  • twice as the active participle thābit (ثَابِت)
  • twice as the form II verbal noun tathbīt (تَثْبِيت)

Verb (form I) - to be firm

(8:45:7) fa-uth'butūthen be firm يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا لَقِيتُمْ فِئَةً فَاثْبُتُوا

Verb (form II) - to make firm

(2:250:10) wathabbitand make firm رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا

(13:39:5) wayuth'bituand confirms يَمْحُو اللَّهُ مَا يَشَاءُ وَيُثْبِتُ وَعِنْدَهُ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ
