The triliteral root khā yā bā (خ ي ب) occurs five times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • four times as the form I verb khāba (خَابَ)
  • once as the active participle khāibīn (خَآئِبِين)

(14:15:2) wakhābaand disappointed وَاسْتَفْتَحُوا وَخَابَ كُلُّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ
(20:61:13) khābahe failed فَيُسْحِتَكُمْ بِعَذَابٍ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ افْتَرَىٰ
(20:111:6) khābawill have failed وَعَنَتِ الْوُجُوهُ لِلْحَيِّ الْقَيُّومِ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ حَمَلَ ظُلْمًا
(91:10:2) khābahe fails وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسَّاهَا
