The triliteral root rā qāf bā (ر ق ب) occurs 24 times in the Quran, in six derived forms:

  • three times as the form I verb yarqubu (يَرْقُبُ)
  • twice as the form V verb yataraqqabu (يَتَرَقَّبُ)
  • four times as the form VIII verb ir'taqib (ٱرْتَقِبْ)
  • nine times as the noun raqabat (رَقَبَة)
  • five times as the noun raqīb (رَقِيب)
  • once as the form VIII active participle mur'taqibūn (مُّرْتَقِبُون)

Verb (form I) - to respect

(9:8:6) yarqubūthey do not regard (the ties) كَيْفَ وَإِنْ يَظْهَرُوا عَلَيْكُمْ لَا يَرْقُبُوا فِيكُمْ إِلًّا وَلَا ذِمَّةً
(9:10:2) yarqubūnathey respect (the ties) لَا يَرْقُبُونَ فِي مُؤْمِنٍ إِلًّا وَلَا ذِمَّةً وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُعْتَدُونَ
