Quran Dictionary - خ ل ط

The triliteral root khā lām ṭā (خ ل ط) occurs six times in the Quran, in four derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb khalaṭu (خَلَطُ)
  • once as the form III verb tukhāliṭu (تُخَالِطُ)
  • three times as the form VIII verb ikh'talaṭa (ٱخْتَلَطَ)
  • once as the noun khulaṭā (خُلَطَآء)

Verb (form I) - to mix

(9:102:4) khalaṭūThey had mixed وَآخَرُونَ اعْتَرَفُوا بِذُنُوبِهِمْ خَلَطُوا عَمَلًا صَالِحًا وَآخَرَ سَيِّئًا

Verb (form III) - to associate

(2:220:12) tukhāliṭūhumyou associate with them وَإِنْ تُخَالِطُوهُمْ فَإِخْوَانُكُمْ

Verb (form VIII) - to join, to absorb, to mingle

(6:146:22) ikh'talaṭa(is) joined إِلَّا مَا حَمَلَتْ ظُهُورُهُمَا أَوِ الْحَوَايَا أَوْ مَا اخْتَلَطَ بِعَظْمٍ
(10:24:9) fa-ikh'talaṭaso absorbs إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَاءٍ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَاخْتَلَطَ بِهِ نَبَاتُ الْأَرْضِ مِمَّا يَأْكُلُ النَّاسُ وَالْأَنْعَامُ
(18:45:10) fa-ikh'talaṭathen mingles وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَثَلَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَاءٍ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَاخْتَلَطَ بِهِ نَبَاتُ الْأَرْضِ فَأَصْبَحَ هَشِيمًا

Noun

(38:24:11) l-khulaṭāithe partners وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِنَ الْخُلَطَاءِ لَيَبْغِي بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ
