The triliteral root lām mīm mīm (ل م م) occurs four times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • twice as the form I verb lumma (لُمَّ)
  • once as the noun lamam (لَّمَم)
  • once as the verbal noun lamm (لَّمّ)

Verb (form I) - to bring forward, to come

(6:150:2) halummaBring forward قُلْ هَلُمَّ شُهَدَاءَكُمُ الَّذِينَ يَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ هَٰذَا
(33:18:8) halummaCome قَدْ يَعْلَمُ اللَّهُ الْمُعَوِّقِينَ مِنْكُمْ وَالْقَائِلِينَ لِإِخْوَانِهِمْ هَلُمَّ إِلَيْنَا

Noun

(53:32:7) l-lamamathe small faults الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ

Verbal noun

(89:19:4) lammanaltogether وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَمًّا
