The triliteral root fā rā ghayn (ف ر غ) occurs six times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • twice as the form I verb faragh (فَرَغْ)
  • three times as the form IV verb afrigh (أَفْرِغْ)
  • once as the active participle fārigh (فَٰرِغ)

Verb (form I) - to finish

(55:31:1) sanafrughuSoon We will attend سَنَفْرُغُ لَكُمْ أَيُّهَ الثَّقَلَانِ
(94:7:2) faraghtayou have finished فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانْصَبْ

Verb (form IV) - to pour

(2:250:7) afrighPour وَلَمَّا بَرَزُوا لِجَالُوتَ وَجُنُودِهِ قَالُوا رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا
(7:126:12) afrighPour رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ
(18:96:17) uf'righI pour حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَعَلَهُ نَارًا قَالَ آتُونِي أُفْرِغْ عَلَيْهِ قِطْرًا

Active participle

(28:10:5) fārighanempty وَأَصْبَحَ فُؤَادُ أُمِّ مُوسَىٰ فَارِغًا
