The triliteral root ḥā lām yā (ح ل ي) occurs nine times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • four times as the form II verb ḥullu (حُلُّ)
  • once as the noun ḥuliyy (حُلِيّ)
  • four times as the noun ḥil'yat (حِلْيَة)

Verb (form II) - to adorn

(18:31:9) yuḥallawnaThey will be adorned يُحَلَّوْنَ فِيهَا مِنْ أَسَاوِرَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَيَلْبَسُونَ ثِيَابًا خُضْرًا
(22:23:13) yuḥallawnaThey will be adorned يُحَلَّوْنَ فِيهَا مِنْ أَسَاوِرَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَلُؤْلُؤًا وَلِبَاسُهُمْ فِيهَا حَرِيرٌ
