The triliteral root ʿayn zāy lām (ع ز ل) occurs 10 times in the Quran, in four derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb ʿazal (عَزَلْ)
  • seven times as the form VIII verb iʿ'tazala (ٱعْتَزَلَ)
  • once as the noun maʿzil (مَعْزِل)
  • once as the passive participle maʿzūlūn (مَعْزُولُون)

(33:51:12) ʿazaltayou (had) set aside وَمَنِ ابْتَغَيْتَ مِمَّنْ عَزَلْتَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكَ
