The triliteral root khā ḍād ʿayn (خ ض ع) occurs twice in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb takhḍaʿ (تَخْضَعْ)
  • once as the active participle khāḍiʿīn (خَٰضِعِين)

(33:32:10) takhḍaʿnabe soft فَلَا تَخْضَعْنَ بِالْقَوْلِ فَيَطْمَعَ الَّذِي فِي قَلْبِهِ مَرَضٌ

Active participle

(26:4:11) khāḍiʿīna(in) humility إِنْ نَشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ آيَةً فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَاقُهُمْ لَهَا خَاضِعِينَ
