Quran Dictionary - س ر ح

The triliteral root sīn rā ḥā (س ر ح) occurs seven times in the Quran, in four derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb tasraḥu (تَسْرَحُ)
  • three times as the form II verb sarriḥu (سَرِّحُ)
  • twice as the noun sarāḥ (سَرَاح)
  • once as the form II verbal noun tasrīḥ (تَسْرِيح)

Verb (form I) - to take out

(16:6:7) tasraḥūnayou take them out وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا جَمَالٌ حِينَ تُرِيحُونَ وَحِينَ تَسْرَحُونَ

Verb (form II) - to release

(2:231:9) sarriḥūhunnarelease them فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ سَرِّحُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ
