Quran Dictionary - ن ح س


The triliteral root nūn ḥā sīn (ن ح س) occurs three times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • once as the noun nuḥās (نُحَاس)
  • once as the noun naḥs (نَحْس)
  • once as the adjective naḥisāt (نَّحِسَات)

(55:35:6) wanuḥāsunand smoke يُرْسَلُ عَلَيْكُمَا شُوَاظٌ مِنْ نَارٍ وَنُحَاسٌ فَلَا تَنْتَصِرَانِ


(54:19:8) naḥsin(of) misfortune إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِي يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُسْتَمِرٍّ


(41:16:7) naḥisātin(of) misfortune فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِي أَيَّامٍ نَحِسَاتٍ
