The triliteral root jīm rā ḥā (ج ر ح) occurs four times in the Quran, in four derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb jaraḥ (جَرَحْ)
  • once as the form VIII verb ij'taraḥu (ٱجْتَرَحُ)
  • once as the noun jurūḥ (جُرُوح)
  • once as the noun jawāriḥ (جَوَارِح)

Verb (form I) - to commit

(6:60:7) jaraḥtumyou committed وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَتَوَفَّاكُمْ بِاللَّيْلِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا جَرَحْتُمْ بِالنَّهَارِ

Verb (form VIII) - to commit

(45:21:4) ij'taraḥūcommit أَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِينَ اجْتَرَحُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ أَنْ نَجْعَلَهُمْ كَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ
