The triliteral root fā yā ḍād (ف ي ض) occurs nine times in the Quran, in two derived forms:
- twice as the form I verb tafīḍu (تَفِيضُ)
- seven times as the form IV verb afāḍa (أَفَاضَ)

Verb (form I) - to overflow
(5:83:9) tafīḍu | overflowing | تَرَىٰ أَعْيُنَهُمْ تَفِيضُ مِنَ الدَّمْعِ مِمَّا عَرَفُوا مِنَ الْحَقِّ |
