The triliteral root fā wāw tā (ف و ت) occurs five times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • three times as the form I verb fāta (فَاتَ)
  • once as the noun fawt (فَوْت)
  • once as the form VI verbal noun tafāwut (تَفَٰوُت)

Verb (form I) - to escape

(3:153:18) fātakumescaped you لِكَيْلَا تَحْزَنُوا عَلَىٰ مَا فَاتَكُمْ وَلَا مَا أَصَابَكُمْ
(57:23:5) fātakumhas escaped you لِكَيْلَا تَأْسَوْا عَلَىٰ مَا فَاتَكُمْ وَلَا تَفْرَحُوا بِمَا آتَاكُمْ
(60:11:2) fātakumhave gone from you وَإِنْ فَاتَكُمْ شَيْءٌ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُمْ إِلَى الْكُفَّارِ فَعَاقَبْتُمْ فَآتُوا الَّذِينَ ذَهَبَتْ أَزْوَاجُهُمْ مِثْلَ مَا أَنْفَقُوا

Noun

(34:51:6) fawtaescape وَلَوْ تَرَىٰ إِذْ فَزِعُوا فَلَا فَوْتَ وَأُخِذُوا مِنْ مَكَانٍ قَرِيبٍ
