The triliteral root nūn shīn zāy (ن ش ز) occurs five times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • twice as the form I verb unshuzu (ٱنشُزُ)
  • once as the form IV verb nunshizu (نُنشِزُ)
  • twice as the noun nushūz (نُشُوز)

Verb (form I) - to rise

(58:11:16) unshuzūRise up فَافْسَحُوا يَفْسَحِ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَإِذَا قِيلَ انْشُزُوا
(58:11:17) fa-unshuzūthen rise up فَانْشُزُوا يَرْفَعِ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجَاتٍ

Verb (form IV) - to raise

(2:259:53) nunshizuhāWe raise them وَانْظُرْ إِلَى الْعِظَامِ كَيْفَ نُنْشِزُهَا ثُمَّ نَكْسُوهَا لَحْمًا
