The triliteral root hā zāy zāy (ه ز ز) occurs five times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb huzzi (هُزِّ)
  • four times as the form VIII verb ih'tazzat (ٱهْتَزَّتْ)

Verb (form I) - to shake

(19:25:1) wahuzzīAnd shake وَهُزِّي إِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ تُسَاقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَبًا جَنِيًّا

Verb (form VIII) - to stir, to move

(22:5:63) ih'tazzatit gets stirred فَإِذَا أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا الْمَاءَ اهْتَزَّتْ وَرَبَتْ
(27:10:5) tahtazzumoving وَأَلْقِ عَصَاكَ فَلَمَّا رَآهَا تَهْتَزُّ كَأَنَّهَا جَانٌّ وَلَّىٰ مُدْبِرًا وَلَمْ يُعَقِّبْ
(28:31:6) tahtazzumoving وَأَنْ أَلْقِ عَصَاكَ فَلَمَّا رَآهَا تَهْتَزُّ كَأَنَّهَا جَانٌّ وَلَّىٰ مُدْبِرًا
(41:39:11) ih'tazzatit is stirred (to life) فَإِذَا أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا الْمَاءَ اهْتَزَّتْ وَرَبَتْ
