The triliteral root ḍād wāw hamza (ض و أ) occurs six times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • three times as the form IV verb aḍāa (أَضَآءَ)
  • three times as the noun ḍiyā (ضِيَآء)

Verb (form IV) - to light, to flash, to glow

(2:17:7) aḍāatit illuminated فَلَمَّا أَضَاءَتْ مَا حَوْلَهُ ذَهَبَ اللَّهُ بِنُورِهِمْ
(2:20:6) aḍāait flashes يَكَادُ الْبَرْقُ يَخْطَفُ أَبْصَارَهُمْ كُلَّمَا أَضَاءَ لَهُمْ مَشَوْا فِيهِ
(24:35:28) yuḍīuglow يَكَادُ زَيْتُهَا يُضِيءُ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمْسَسْهُ نَارٌ
