The triliteral root shīn rā qāf (ش ر ق) occurs 17 times in the Quran, in six derived forms:

  • once as the form IV verb ashraqati (أَشْرَقَتِ)
  • once as the adjective sharqiyy (شَرْقِيّ)
  • once as the noun sharqiyyat (شَرْقِيَّة)
  • 11 times as the noun mashriq (مَشْرِق)
  • once as the form IV verbal noun ish'rāq (إِشْرَاق)
  • twice as the form IV active participle mush'riqīn (مُّشْرِقِين)
