The triliteral root ṭā mīm nūn (ط م ن) occurs 13 times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • nine times as the form XII verb iṭ'ma-anna (ٱطْمَأَنَّ)
  • twice as the form XII active participle muṭ'ma-inn (مُطْمَئِنّ)
  • twice as the form XII active participle muṭ'ma-innat (مُّطْمَئِنَّة)

Verb (form XII) - to be satisfied, to be secure, to be content

(2:260:15) liyaṭma-innato satisfy قَالَ أَوَلَمْ تُؤْمِنْ قَالَ بَلَىٰ وَلَٰكِنْ لِيَطْمَئِنَّ قَلْبِي
(3:126:7) walitaṭma-innaand to reassure وَمَا جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَّا بُشْرَىٰ لَكُمْ وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ قُلُوبُكُمْ بِهِ
(4:103:11) iṭ'manantumyou are secure فَإِذَا اطْمَأْنَنْتُمْ فَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ
(5:113:6) wataṭma-innaand satisfy قَالُوا نُرِيدُ أَنْ نَأْكُلَ مِنْهَا وَتَطْمَئِنَّ قُلُوبُنَا
(8:10:6) walitaṭma-innaand so that might be at rest وَمَا جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَّا بُشْرَىٰ وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ بِهِ قُلُوبُكُمْ
(10:7:9) wa-iṭ'ma-annūand feel satisfied إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَاءَنَا وَرَضُوا بِالْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَاطْمَأَنُّوا بِهَا
(13:28:3) wataṭma-innuand find satisfaction الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُمْ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ
(13:28:10) taṭma-innufind satisfaction أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ
(22:11:11) iṭ'ma-annahe is content فَإِنْ أَصَابَهُ خَيْرٌ اطْمَأَنَّ بِهِ

Active participle (form XII)

(16:106:11) muṭ'ma-innun(is) content إِلَّا مَنْ أُكْرِهَ وَقَلْبُهُ مُطْمَئِنٌّ بِالْإِيمَانِ
(17:95:8) muṭ'ma-innīnasecurely قُلْ لَوْ كَانَ فِي الْأَرْضِ مَلَائِكَةٌ يَمْشُونَ مُطْمَئِنِّينَ لَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَلَكًا رَسُولًا
