The triliteral root dāl rā kāf (د ر ك) occurs 12 times in the Quran, in five derived forms:

  • six times as the form IV verb adraka (أَدْرَكَ)
  • three times as the form VI verb iddāraka (ٱدَّٰرَكَ)
  • once as the noun dark (دَّرْك)
  • once as the noun darak (دَرَك)
  • once as the form IV passive participle mud'rakūn (مُدْرَكُون)

Verb (form IV) - to overtake, to grasp

(4:78:3) yud'rikkumuwill overtake you أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُوا يُدْرِكْكُمُ الْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنْتُمْ فِي بُرُوجٍ مُشَيَّدَةٍ
(4:100:21) yud'rik'huovertakes him وَمَنْ يَخْرُجْ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ مُهَاجِرًا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ثُمَّ يُدْرِكْهُ الْمَوْتُ فَقَدْ وَقَعَ أَجْرُهُ عَلَى اللَّهِ
(6:103:2) tud'rikuhugrasp Him لَا تُدْرِكُهُ الْأَبْصَارُ
(6:103:5) yud'riku(can) grasp وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ الْأَبْصَارَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ
(10:90:12) adrakahuovertook him حَتَّىٰ إِذَا أَدْرَكَهُ الْغَرَقُ قَالَ آمَنْتُ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا الَّذِي آمَنَتْ بِهِ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ
(36:40:6) tud'rikait overtakes لَا الشَّمْسُ يَنْبَغِي لَهَا أَنْ تُدْرِكَ الْقَمَرَ وَلَا اللَّيْلُ سَابِقُ النَّهَارِ

Verb (form VI) - to overtake, to arrest

(7:38:21) iddārakūthey had overtaken one another حَتَّىٰ إِذَا ادَّارَكُوا فِيهَا جَمِيعًا قَالَتْ أُخْرَاهُمْ لِأُولَاهُمْ رَبَّنَا هَٰؤُلَاءِ أَضَلُّونَا
(27:66:2) iddārakais arrested بَلِ ادَّارَكَ عِلْمُهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِنْهَا
(68:49:3) tadārakahuovertook him لَوْلَا أَنْ تَدَارَكَهُ نِعْمَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِ لَنُبِذَ بِالْعَرَاءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ
