The triliteral root dāl rā sīn (د ر س) occurs six times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • five times as the form I verb darasu (دَرَسُ)
  • once as the noun dirāsat (دِرَاسَت)

(3:79:28) tadrusūnastudying (it) كُونُوا رَبَّانِيِّينَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تُعَلِّمُونَ الْكِتَابَ وَبِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَدْرُسُونَ
(6:105:5) darastaYou have studied وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ الْآيَاتِ وَلِيَقُولُوا دَرَسْتَ وَلِنُبَيِّنَهُ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ
(7:169:31) wadarasūwhile they studied أَلَمْ يُؤْخَذْ عَلَيْهِمْ مِيثَاقُ الْكِتَابِ أَنْ لَا يَقُولُوا عَلَى اللَّهِ إِلَّا الْحَقَّ وَدَرَسُوا مَا فِيهِ
