Verse (21:90), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (21:90) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The form X perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is jīm wāw bā (ج و ب). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: So We responded to him, and We gave to him John, and amended for him his wife. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive.
