Quran Dictionary - ص ر خ

The triliteral root ṣād rā khā (ص ر خ) occurs five times in the Quran, in four derived forms:

  • once as the form VIII verb yaṣṭarikhu (يَصْطَرِخُ)
  • once as the form X verb yastaṣrikhu (يَسْتَصْرِخُ)
  • once as the noun ṣarīkh (صَرِيخ)
  • twice as the form IV active participle muṣ'rikh (مُصْرِخ)

Verb (form VIII) - to cry

(35:37:2) yaṣṭarikhūnawill cry وَهُمْ يَصْطَرِخُونَ فِيهَا رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَالِحًا

Verb (form X) - to cry for help

(28:18:10) yastaṣrikhuhucried out to him for help فَإِذَا الَّذِي اسْتَنْصَرَهُ بِالْأَمْسِ يَسْتَصْرِخُهُ

Noun

(36:43:5) ṣarīkha(would be) a responder to a cry وَإِنْ نَشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنْقَذُونَ

Active participle (form IV)

(14:22:30) bimuṣ'rikhikum(be) your helper فَلَا تَلُومُونِي وَلُومُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ مَا أَنَا بِمُصْرِخِكُمْ
(14:22:33) bimuṣ'rikhiyya(be) my helper وَمَا أَنْتُمْ بِمُصْرِخِيَّ
