The triliteral root ṣād rā rā (ص ر ر) occurs six times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • four times as the form IV verb aṣarru (أَصَرُّ)
  • once as the noun ṣirr (صِرّ)
  • once as the noun ṣarrat (صَرَّة)

Verb (form IV) - to persist

(3:135:18) yuṣirrūthey persist وَلَمْ يُصِرُّوا عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلُوا وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
(45:8:7) yuṣirrupersists يَسْمَعُ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يُصِرُّ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَنْ لَمْ يَسْمَعْهَا
(56:46:2) yuṣirrūnapersisting وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِيمِ
(71:7:12) wa-aṣarrūand persisted وَاسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا اسْتِكْبَارًا
