The triliteral root ṣād dāl fā (ص د ف) occurs five times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • four times as the form I verb ṣadafa (صَدَفَ)
  • once as the noun ṣadafayn (صَّدَفَيْن)

Verb (form I) - to turn away

(6:46:23) yaṣdifūnaturn away انْظُرْ كَيْفَ نُصَرِّفُ الْآيَاتِ ثُمَّ هُمْ يَصْدِفُونَ
(6:157:24) waṣadafaand turns away فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنْ كَذَّبَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَصَدَفَ عَنْهَا
(6:157:28) yaṣdifūnaturn away سَنَجْزِي الَّذِينَ يَصْدِفُونَ عَنْ آيَاتِنَا سُوءَ الْعَذَابِ
