Chapter (56) sūrat l-wāqiʿah (The Event)

Sahih International: If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?

Pickthall: If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks?

Yusuf Ali: Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks?

Shakir: If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks?

Muhammad Sarwar: Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks?

Mohsin Khan: If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)?

Arberry: Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful?
