Quran Dictionary - ي ب س

The triliteral root yā bā sīn (ي ب س) occurs four times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • twice as the adjective yābisāt (يَابِسَٰت)
  • once as the adjective yabas (يَبَس)
  • once as the active participle yābis (يَابِس)

Adjective

(12:43:15) yābisātindry إِنِّي أَرَىٰ سَبْعَ بَقَرَاتٍ سِمَانٍ يَأْكُلُهُنَّ سَبْعٌ عِجَافٌ وَسَبْعَ سُنْبُلَاتٍ خُضْرٍ وَأُخَرَ يَابِسَاتٍ
(12:46:16) yābisātindry أَفْتِنَا فِي سَبْعِ بَقَرَاتٍ سِمَانٍ يَأْكُلُهُنَّ سَبْعٌ عِجَافٌ وَسَبْعِ سُنْبُلَاتٍ خُضْرٍ وَأُخَرَ يَابِسَاتٍ

Adjective

(20:77:13) yabasandry أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِي فَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ طَرِيقًا فِي الْبَحْرِ يَبَسًا

Active participle

(6:59:27) yābisindry وَلَا حَبَّةٍ فِي ظُلُمَاتِ الْأَرْضِ وَلَا رَطْبٍ وَلَا يَابِسٍ إِلَّا فِي كِتَابٍ مُبِينٍ
