The triliteral root rā tā lām (ر ت ل) occurs four times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • twice as the form II verb rattal (رَتَّلْ)
  • twice as the form II verbal noun tartīl (تَرْتِيل)

Verb (form II) - to recite

(25:32:14) warattalnāhuand We have recited it كَذَٰلِكَ لِنُثَبِّتَ بِهِ فُؤَادَكَ وَرَتَّلْنَاهُ تَرْتِيلًا
(73:4:4) warattiliand recite أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا

Verbal noun (form II)

(25:32:15) tartīlan(with distinct) recitation كَذَٰلِكَ لِنُثَبِّتَ بِهِ فُؤَادَكَ وَرَتَّلْنَاهُ تَرْتِيلًا
(73:4:6) tartīlan(with) measured rhythmic recitation أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا
