The triliteral root nūn fā dāl (ن ف د) occurs five times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • four times as the form I verb nafida (نَفِدَ)
  • once as the noun nafād (نَّفَاد)

Verb (form I) - to be exhausted

(16:96:3) yanfaduwill be exhausted مَا عِنْدَكُمْ يَنْفَدُ وَمَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ بَاقٍ
(18:109:8) lanafidasurely (would be) exhausted قُلْ لَوْ كَانَ الْبَحْرُ مِدَادًا لِكَلِمَاتِ رَبِّي لَنَفِدَ الْبَحْرُ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَنْفَدَ كَلِمَاتُ رَبِّي
