The triliteral root nūn fā shīn (ن ف ش) occurs twice in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb nafashat (نَفَشَتْ)
  • once as the passive participle manfūsh (مَنفُوش)

Verb (form I) - to pasture

(21:78:8) nafashatpastured وَدَاوُودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ إِذْ يَحْكُمَانِ فِي الْحَرْثِ إِذْ نَفَشَتْ فِيهِ غَنَمُ الْقَوْمِ

Passive participle

(101:5:4) l-manfūshifluffed up وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنْفُوشِ
