The triliteral root mīm sīn ḥā (م س ح) occurs four times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • three times as the form I verb im'saḥu (ٱمْسَحُ)
  • once as the noun masḥ (مَسْح)

Verb (form I) - to wipe

(4:43:41) fa-im'saḥūand wipe (with it) فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَامْسَحُوا بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُمْ
(5:6:13) wa-im'saḥūand wipe وَامْسَحُوا بِرُءُوسِكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُمْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ
(5:6:43) fa-im'saḥūthen wipe فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَامْسَحُوا بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُمْ مِنْهُ
