Verse (6:125), Word 8 - Quranic Grammar

The eighth word of verse (6:125) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A preposition and verbal noun. The prefixed preposition lām is usually translated as "for". The form IV verbal noun is masculine and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The verbal noun's triliteral root is sīn lām mīm (س ل م). Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Verse (6:125)

The analysis above refers to the 125th verse of chapter 6 (sūrat l-anʿām):

Sahih International: So whoever Allah wants to guide - He expands his breast to [contain] Islam; and whoever He wants to misguide - He makes his breast tight and constricted as though he were climbing into the sky. Thus does Allah place defilement upon those who do not believe.
