The triliteral root sīn rā qāf (س ر ق) occurs nine times in the Quran, in four derived forms:

  • four times as the form I verb saraqa (سَرَقَ)
  • once as the form VIII verb is'taraqa (ٱسْتَرَقَ)
  • three times as the active participle sāriq (سَّارِق)
  • once as the active participle sāriqat (سَّارِقَة)

Verb (form I) - to steal

(12:77:3) yasriqhe steals قَالُوا إِنْ يَسْرِقْ فَقَدْ سَرَقَ أَخٌ لَهُ مِنْ قَبْلُ
(12:77:5) saraqastole قَالُوا إِنْ يَسْرِقْ فَقَدْ سَرَقَ أَخٌ لَهُ مِنْ قَبْلُ
(12:81:8) saraqahas stolen ارْجِعُوا إِلَىٰ أَبِيكُمْ فَقُولُوا يَا أَبَانَا إِنَّ ابْنَكَ سَرَقَ
(60:12:14) yasriq'nathey will steal يُبَايِعْنَكَ عَلَىٰ أَنْ لَا يُشْرِكْنَ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَسْرِقْنَ

Verb (form VIII) - to steal

(15:18:3) is'taraqasteals إِلَّا مَنِ اسْتَرَقَ السَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ مُبِينٌ

Active participle

(5:38:1) wal-sāriquAnd (for) the male thief وَالسَّارِقُ
(12:70:15) lasāriqūnasurely (are) thieves ثُمَّ أَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنٌ أَيَّتُهَا الْعِيرُ إِنَّكُمْ لَسَارِقُونَ
(12:73:12) sāriqīnathieves مَا جِئْنَا لِنُفْسِدَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَمَا كُنَّا سَارِقِينَ

Active participle

(5:38:2) wal-sāriqatuand the female thief وَالسَّارِقَةُ فَاقْطَعُوا أَيْدِيَهُمَا جَزَاءً بِمَا كَسَبَا
