The triliteral root mīm yā lām (م ي ل) occurs six times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • three times as the form I verb yamīlu (يَمِيلُ)
  • twice as the noun mayl (مَيْل)
  • once as the noun maylat (مَّيْلَة)

Verb (form I) - to deviate, to assult, to incline

(4:27:11) tamīlūyou deviate وَيُرِيدُ الَّذِينَ يَتَّبِعُونَ الشَّهَوَاتِ أَنْ تَمِيلُوا مَيْلًا عَظِيمًا
(4:102:36) fayamīlūnaso (that) they (can) assault وَدَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ تَغْفُلُونَ عَنْ أَسْلِحَتِكُمْ وَأَمْتِعَتِكُمْ فَيَمِيلُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ مَيْلَةً وَاحِدَةً
(4:129:10) tamīlūincline فَلَا تَمِيلُوا كُلَّ الْمَيْلِ فَتَذَرُوهَا كَالْمُعَلَّقَةِ

Noun
