The triliteral root mīm yā dāl (م ي د) occurs five times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • three times as the form I verb tamīda (تَمِيدَ)
  • twice as the noun māidat (مَآئِدَة)

Verb (form I) - to shake

(16:15:6) tamīdait should shake وَأَلْقَىٰ فِي الْأَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ أَنْ تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَأَنْهَارًا وَسُبُلًا
(21:31:6) tamīdait (should) shake وَجَعَلْنَا فِي الْأَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ أَنْ تَمِيدَ بِهِمْ وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجًا
(31:10:11) tamīdait (might) shake وَأَلْقَىٰ فِي الْأَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ أَنْ تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَبَثَّ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلِّ دَابَّةٍ
