The triliteral root lām ṭā fā (ل ط ف) occurs eight times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • once as the form V verb yatalaṭṭaf (يَتَلَطَّفْ)
  • seven times as the nominal laṭīf (لَطِيف)

Verb (form V) - to be cautious

(18:19:34) walyatalaṭṭafand let him be cautious فَلْيَنْظُرْ أَيُّهَا أَزْكَىٰ طَعَامًا فَلْيَأْتِكُمْ بِرِزْقٍ مِنْهُ وَلْيَتَلَطَّفْ

Nominal

(12:100:40) laṭīfun(is) Most Subtle إِنَّ رَبِّي لَطِيفٌ لِمَا يَشَاءُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ
(22:63:14) laṭīfun(is) surely Subtle فَتُصْبِحُ الْأَرْضُ مُخْضَرَّةً إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَطِيفٌ خَبِيرٌ
(31:16:23) laṭīfun(is) All-Subtle فَتَكُنْ فِي صَخْرَةٍ أَوْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ أَوْ فِي الْأَرْضِ يَأْتِ بِهَا اللَّهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَطِيفٌ خَبِيرٌ
(42:19:2) laṭīfun(is) Subtle اللَّهُ لَطِيفٌ بِعِبَادِهِ يَرْزُقُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَهُوَ الْقَوِيُّ الْعَزِيزُ
