The triliteral root jīm nūn fā (ج ن ف) occurs twice in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • once as the noun janaf (جَنَف)
  • once as the form VI active participle mutajānif (مُتَجَانِف)

(2:182:5) janafan(any) error فَمَنْ خَافَ مِنْ مُوصٍ جَنَفًا أَوْ إِثْمًا فَأَصْلَحَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ

Active participle (form VI)

(5:3:56) mutajānifininclining فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ فِي مَخْمَصَةٍ غَيْرَ مُتَجَانِفٍ لِإِثْمٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ
