Verse (49:17), Word 16 - Quranic Grammar

The sixteenth word of verse (49:17) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A preposition and verbal noun. The prefixed preposition lām is usually translated as "for". The form IV verbal noun is masculine and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The verbal noun's triliteral root is hamza mīm nūn (أ م ن). Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Sahih International: They consider it a favor to you that they have accepted Islam. Say, "Do not consider your Islam a favor to me. Rather, Allah has conferred favor upon you that He has guided you to the faith, if you should be truthful."
