Sahih International: We did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know.

Pickthall: We created them not save with truth; but most of them know not.

Yusuf Ali: We created them not except for just ends: but most of them do not understand.

Shakir: We did not create them both but with the truth, but most of them do not know.

Muhammad Sarwar: We have created them for a genuine purpose, but most people do not know.

Mohsin Khan: We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not.

Arberry: We created them not save in truth; but most of them know it not.
