The triliteral root wāw rā dāl (و ر د) occurs 11 times in the Quran, in seven derived forms:

  • twice as the form I verb warada (وَرَدَ)
  • once as the form IV verb awrada (أَوْرَدَ)
  • twice as the noun wir'd (وِرْد)
  • once as the noun wardat (وَرْدَة)
  • once as the noun warīd (وَرِيد)
  • three times as the active participle wārid (وَارِد)
  • once as the passive participle mawrūd (مَوْرُود)

Verb (form I) - to come

(21:99:6) waradūhāthey (would) have come to it لَوْ كَانَ هَٰؤُلَاءِ آلِهَةً مَا وَرَدُوهَا وَكُلٌّ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ
(28:23:2) waradahe came وَلَمَّا وَرَدَ مَاءَ مَدْيَنَ وَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ أُمَّةً مِنَ النَّاسِ يَسْقُونَ

Verb (form IV) - to lead

(11:98:5) fa-awradahumuand lead them يَقْدُمُ قَوْمَهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَأَوْرَدَهُمُ النَّارَ

Noun

(11:98:8) l-wir'du(is) the place وَبِئْسَ الْوِرْدُ الْمَوْرُودُ
(19:86:5) wir'danthirsty وَنَسُوقُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ وِرْدًا

Active participle

(12:19:4) wāridahumtheir water drawer وَجَاءَتْ سَيَّارَةٌ فَأَرْسَلُوا وَارِدَهُمْ فَأَدْلَىٰ دَلْوَهُ
(19:71:4) wāriduhā(will be) passing over it وَإِنْ مِنْكُمْ إِلَّا وَارِدُهَا كَانَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ حَتْمًا مَقْضِيًّا
(21:98:11) wāridūnawill come حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ أَنْتُمْ لَهَا وَارِدُونَ

Passive participle
