Quran Dictionary - و ط أ

The triliteral root wāw ṭā hamza (و ط أ) occurs six times in the Quran, in four derived forms:

  • three times as the form I verb yaṭa-u (يَطَـُٔ)
  • once as the form III verb yuwāṭi-u (يُوَاطِـُٔ)
  • once as the noun mawṭi (مَوْطِئ)
  • once as the noun waṭ (وَطْـٔ)

Verb (form I) - to step, to trod, to trample

(9:120:32) yaṭaūnathey step وَلَا يَطَئُونَ مَوْطِئًا يَغِيظُ الْكُفَّارَ وَلَا يَنَالُونَ مِنْ عَدُوٍّ نَيْلًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُمْ بِهِ عَمَلٌ صَالِحٌ
(33:27:7) taṭaūhāyou (had) trodden وَأَوْرَثَكُمْ أَرْضَهُمْ وَدِيَارَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ وَأَرْضًا لَمْ تَطَئُوهَا
(48:25:21) taṭaūhumyou may trample them وَلَوْلَا رِجَالٌ مُؤْمِنُونَ وَنِسَاءٌ مُؤْمِنَاتٌ لَمْ تَعْلَمُوهُمْ أَنْ تَطَئُوهُمْ

Verb (form III) - to adjust

(9:37:14) liyuwāṭiūto adjust يُحِلُّونَهُ عَامًا وَيُحَرِّمُونَهُ عَامًا لِيُوَاطِئُوا عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ
