The triliteral root shīn ṭā ṭā (ش ط ط) occurs three times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • once as the form IV verb tush'ṭiṭ (تُشْطِطْ)
  • twice as the noun shaṭaṭ (شَطَط)

(38:22:19) tush'ṭiṭbe unjust فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تُشْطِطْ

(18:14:19) shaṭaṭanan enormity لَنْ نَدْعُوَ مِنْ دُونِهِ إِلَٰهًا لَقَدْ قُلْنَا إِذًا شَطَطًا
(72:4:7) shaṭaṭanan excessive transgression وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ شَطَطًا
