Verse (17:7), Word 7 - Quranic Grammar

The seventh word of verse (17:7) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, preposition and personal pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prefixed preposition lām is usually translated as "for". The personal pronoun is third person feminine singular. Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Verse (17:7)

The analysis above refers to the seventh verse of chapter 17 (sūrat l-isrā):

Sahih International: [And said], "If you do good, you do good for yourselves; and if you do evil, [you do it] to yourselves." Then when the final promise came, [We sent your enemies] to sadden your faces and to enter the temple in Jerusalem, as they entered it the first time, and to destroy what they had taken over with [total] destruction.
