The triliteral root dāl wāw mīm (د و م) occurs nine times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • seven times as the form I verb dāmu (دَامُ)
  • twice as the active participle dāim (دَآئِم)

Verb (form I) - to be as long as

(3:75:20) dum'tayou keep constantly وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ إِنْ تَأْمَنْهُ بِدِينَارٍ لَا يُؤَدِّهِ إِلَيْكَ إِلَّا مَا دُمْتَ عَلَيْهِ قَائِمًا
(5:24:8) dāmūas long as they are قَالُوا يَا مُوسَىٰ إِنَّا لَنْ نَدْخُلَهَا أَبَدًا مَا دَامُوا فِيهَا
(5:96:14) dum'tumlong as you وَحُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ صَيْدُ الْبَرِّ مَا دُمْتُمْ حُرُمًا
(5:117:17) dum'tuas long as I وَكُنْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًا مَا دُمْتُ فِيهِمْ
(11:107:4) dāmatias long as remain خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا مَا دَامَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ رَبُّكَ
(11:108:9) dāmatias long as remains وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ سُعِدُوا فَفِي الْجَنَّةِ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا مَا دَامَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ
(19:31:10) dum'tuas long as I am وَأَوْصَانِي بِالصَّلَاةِ وَالزَّكَاةِ مَا دُمْتُ حَيًّا

Active participle

(13:35:11) dāimun(is) everlasting مَثَلُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُونَ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ أُكُلُهَا دَائِمٌ وَظِلُّهَا
(70:23:5) dāimūna(are) constant الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ
