The triliteral root ʿayn ṭā lām (ع ط ل) occurs twice in the Quran, in two derived forms:
- once as the form II verb ʿuṭṭilat (عُطِّلَتْ)
- once as the form II passive participle muʿaṭṭalat (مُّعَطَّلَة)
