Verse (40:37), Word 3 - Quranic Grammar

The third word of verse (40:37) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A particle of cause and verb. The prefixed particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so". The particle is used to indicate cause and makes the following verb subjunctive. The form VIII imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is first person singular and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is ṭā lām ʿayn (ط ل ع).

Verse (40:37)

The analysis above refers to the 37th verse of chapter 40 (sūrat ghāfir):

Sahih International: The ways into the heavens - so that I may look at the deity of Moses; but indeed, I think he is a liar." And thus was made attractive to Pharaoh the evil of his deed, and he was averted from the [right] way. And the plan of Pharaoh was not except in ruin.
