Verse (8:43), Word 10 - Quranic Grammar

The tenth word of verse (8:43) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is second person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is fā shīn lām (ف ش ل). The suffix (التاء) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: [Remember, O Muhammad], when Allah showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matter [of whether to fight], but Allah saved [you from that]. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
