Verse (2:144), Word 7 - Quranic Grammar

The seventh word of verse (2:144) is divided into 5 morphological segments. A resumption particle, emphatic prefix, verb, emphatic suffix and object pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The form II imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is first person plural and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is wāw lām yā (و ل ي). The suffixed emphatic particle is known as the nūn of emphasis (نون التوكيد). The attached object pronoun is second person masculine singular.

Verse (2:144)

The analysis above refers to the 144th verse of chapter 2 (sūrat l-baqarah):

Sahih International: We have certainly seen the turning of your face, [O Muhammad], toward the heaven, and We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased. So turn your face toward al-Masjid al-haram. And wherever you [believers] are, turn your faces toward it [in prayer]. Indeed, those who have been given the Scripture well know that it is the truth from their Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what they do.
