Verse (11:119), Word 11 - Quranic Grammar


The eleventh word of verse (11:119) is a proper noun in the genitive case (مجرور). The case marker is a fatḥah instead of a kasrah because the proper noun is a diptote (ممنوع من الصرف).

Chapter (11) sūrat hūd (Hud)

PN – genitive proper noun → Hell اسم علم مجرور بالفتحة بدلاً من الكسرة لأنه ممنوع من الصرف

Sahih International: Except whom your Lord has given mercy, and for that He created them. But the word of your Lord is to be fulfilled that, "I will surely fill Hell with jinn and men all together."
